Our FREE NHS entitlements for new spectacles are as follows.

If you are entitled to an NHS voucher for new spectacles you can choose any pair from up to and including our £69 range absolutely FREE, they also have scratch resistant coated lenses absolutely FREE.

If you require Bifocal lenses you can have our standard Bifocal completely FREE, saving you £59.

If you require Varifocal lenses you can have our Bronze Varifocal completely FREE, saving you £59.

Any other optional extras that you may require can simply be paid for separately.
Please remember that you qualify for a free eye examination if you are :
Over 60 years old.

Under 16 years of age, or under 19 years of age and in full time education.

Over 40 years old with a family history of Glaucoma.

Suffering from Diabetes/Glaucoma.

On (Income Support) (NHS Tax Credit) (Income based Jobseekers allowance).

Income related Employment and support allowance.

Pension Credit Guarantee Credit.

Named on a valid HC2 certificate.

Registered blind/partially sighted.

Been prescribed complex lenses under the NHS optical voucher scheme.

Your obligations  as an employer
The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations came into force on 1st January 1993 (some minor changes were made in 2002)They seek to protect the health of workers by reducing risks from VDU work. Briefly, the regulations require employers to:
  • Analyse workstations to assess and reduce risks
  • Ensure workstations meet specified minimum requirements
  • Plan work activities so that they include breaks or changes of activity
  • Provide eye and eyesight tests on request, and special spectacles if needed
  • Provide information and training

What does this mean for your business?

  • If spectacles are required for VDU work your employee can choose         a pair of complete glasses with scratch resistant single vision                   coated lenses from our £59 or £69 range (your business will be               only charged £39.00 including VAT for those in the scheme) any               optional extras can be paid by the employee directly to us
  • Subsequent eye tests at regular intervals as specified by the                    examining optometrist (normally every 2 years) at the same rate of        £18
  • A full backup service on every new pair of spectacles including free         servicing and repairs where possible
  • Simple and hassle-free monthly invoicing directly to you by post or         electronically
  • Discounts on all new spectacles for all of your employees and their         families of 15%
  • Contact lens scheme discounts for all your employees and their               families (value equal to 2 free months on the scheme when they             sign up to a new scheme) minimum term 12 months
  • All the above can be gained by registering with our corporate                   eyecare scheme

The Carter & Harding Safety eyewear scheme provides an excellent range of protective prescription eyewear suitable for all working environments.
For companies registered on this scheme, their employees will be entitled to a full eye examination with retinal screening for just £18 (normally £35) as well as being able to choose from a selected range of fashionable safety eyewear, which starts at just £49 complete with single vision lenses. The complete price of £49 represents a huge saving over our normal practice prices. All our frames are CN approved to EN166 and all come with a safety certificate.
